Taxes & Deductions

I do not charge HST and offer services to residents of Ontario. I provide receipts for payment as a Registered Social Worker with a Master's in Counselling Psychology.

As of 2012, counselling services provided by social workers can be claimed as a medical expense tax deduction when you file your income tax return. Please retain your receipts for this purpose.

Insurance & Benefits

The majority of insurance plans cover counselling with a Registered Social Worker (RSW) or Psychotherapist. Post-secondary students who make use of their university or college health insurance plan have coverage for private mental health care services. This means they have coverage to see counsellors in their community who do not have wait lists and specialize in their areas of need. Some university and college students may qualify for bursaries that cover social work services and/or coaching. If you are registered with your institution's accessibility office, speak to your advisor about qualifying for a bursary that could cover some of the costs of our counselling or ADHD coaching. Please check with your insurance provider about coverage. The best way to find out if you are covered is to:

  • check under the extended health section of your insurance company’s website for coverage for counselling with a Registered Social Worker (RSW)

  • call your insurance company and ask if you are covered for counselling with with a Registered Social Worker (RSW)

  • check under the extended health section of your benefits booklet for coverage to see a Registered Social Worker (RSW)

  • ask an HR representative to check if your benefits cover you to see a Registered Social Worker (RSW)
